RISK- just the mere thought of this word could excite someone, scare someone or maybe send chills down their spine. Risk comes with the lure of achieving something better, something bigger, but with a considerable amount of chances of failure. It is often defined as,” A potential to gain or lose something valuable.” Life is full of risks. No, actually, your life moves forward by taking risks. Whether you decide to cross a road with vehicles running at high speed, invest money in stock market, take up a new job prospect, or propose a girl, you’re taking a risk. You are living only when you are taking risks.
Risk, by nature, is unpredictable and scary. You may lose all your savings, you might lose face. You might win everything, you may lose it all. A sight of failure is enough to dissuade anyone from taking risks. Then why do people take risk? Instead of letting fate decide what coming your way, risk lets you take the matter into your own hand. It gives you a sense of control. Risk teaches you things about the world and yourself that nobody else can. It helps you conquer your fears. It’s exhilarating. Let’s hear a story.
Two seeds lay side by side in the fertile spring soil.
The first seed said, "I want to grow! I want to send my roots deep into
the soil beneath me, and thrust my sprouts through the earth's crust
above me.... I want to unfurl my tender buds like banners to announce
the arrival of spring. ... I want to feel the warmth of the sun on my face
and the blessing of the morning dew on my petals!"
And so she grew.
The second seed said, "I am afraid. If I send my roots into the ground
below, I don't know what I will encounter in the dark. If I push my way
through the hard soil above me I may damage my delicate sprouts ...
what if I let my buds open and a snail tries to eat them? And if I were to
open my blossoms, a small child may pull me from the ground. No, it is
much better for me to wait until it is safe."
And so she waited.
A yard hen scratching around in the early spring ground for food found
the waiting seed and promptly ate it.
Risks are indeed a must for gaining something you haven’t had before. When it comes to risk-taking, there are two extremes. Some people are afraid to take even reasonable risks, wanting guaranteed results. This can result in a life that's flat and lackluster. Others take risks easily, believing that their willingness to leap makes them courageous. But having a go about it with no prior work plan, keeping in mind the fact that the odds against success are fairly high, would be considered as utter stupidity. Without taking calculated risks, you will be considered lucky if you succeed. In today’s world, you are probably going to fail if you do not analyse the risks you are about to it. Take calculated risks rather than foolish ones. Sure, they both take courage, but closing your eyes and jumping without looking where you're going is simply reckless. You need to plan and go in with your eyes open. So, set your goals, do your risk research and Conquer!
